I discovered my passion for housing in my early childhood. I crafted my own doll houses and furniture out of tissue boxes and carpet samples. I even sewed my own cushions for the sofas so my dolls could enjoy the finer things in life. Shortly after, my father asked me to help him with his various building and remodeling projects. I loved learning and working with him.

I was born and raised in the Upper Peninsula. My parents moved around Michigan with my siblings and I until they returned to their birthplace, Ironwood. My father invested in land on Lake Superior as a young man and hand built a camp on it so our family could enjoy it. I loved it here. My mother taught me to make each house a home no matter where we lived, but I learned that a location was just as much home as a house was. Ironwood was and is my home.

After I graduated college, I moved back home. I taught skiing at Big Powderhorn Mountain where I met my husband, John. Once married, we started buying, renovating, and flipping chalets in the Powderhorn Village. I started my own company, The Real Estate Store, and specialized in recreational property sales.

Over time, I expanded my company beyond the “one woman show” and broadened my real estate scope to include listing and selling residential, commercial, and vacant land. Then I discovered a need for short term rental management and Hiawatha Lodging was born. That lead The Real Estate Store to include full time rental management services and inspired our extended stay fully furnished rental units and VIP management services today.

I am blessed. I had a father who taught me the basics of business and real estate investing. I found a husband who embraced my love of real estate and my entrepreneurial spirit. We had a daughter, Ellen, who grew up to love the family business and call Ironwood home with her husband. Now, I am blessed with a grandchild. I love spending time with my family, skiing, boating on Lake Superior, traveling and appreciating the arts. 

I had no idea, as a child, that I would be playing with houses professionally as an adult. I still love designing new spaces, distributing furniture, and making things beautiful. In addition, I lead my company with years of personal experience that I am happy to share.
